Advent Windows 2020!
Hey Ex Park - Advent windows are BACK!
What are Advent windows? We ask homes to light up a decorated window on an assigned night, and keep it lit until Dec 31. The calendar and locations are posted publicly so people can walk around to see the latest display. This year, in particular, it will be a lovely addition to the darkest month. Because, frankly, most of 2020 has been pretty stinky.

P.S. - We call it an advent calendar because it’s an easy way for people to immediately understand the fun ‘countdown reveal’ pattern of this collective project, but we have always made it clear that we welcome all holiday traditions and forms of decoration. We’ve had Hanukkah, Solstice, and Kwanzaa windows, and one year had a window devoted entirely to Batman (because, Awesome)! There have been windows with book characters, movie scenes, emojis, light shows, old barbies, paper snowflakes, funny pet photos, images from nature and messages of peace. Anything that sparks joy and prompts a smile is a good theme for a decorated window. Our only ‘rule’ is that you display the number (date) of your first display night so that the whole project ties together with a calendar theme.
P.P.S. - We have also invited the Downtown Guelph businesses to join us, and are excited that many have said yes! Watch for these to show up on our final calendar and map – and visit them on their reveal dates for a chance to win a prize!
